Frequently Asked Questions
What is Occupational Therapy (OT)?
Occupational therapy helps people do the things they want and need to do in daily life—like showering, cooking, working, and socialising—through therapeutic strategies, equipment, or environmental changes.
What does a mobile OT do?
A mobile OT comes to your home, community, or other relevant settings to assess your needs and provide support in your real-life environment. Self-managed clients can self-refer.
Do I need a referral to access your services?
No referral is required for private clients. If you're using NDIS or aged care funding, your support coordinator or care manager can help you to send us a referral.
How do I refer to Star Therapy Services?
Referring is simple! Whether you’re a care manager, NDIS support coordinator, GP, family member, or the client themselves, you can refer using our online referral form. Click here
Who do you work with?
We work with
Older adults (typically 65+) funded through My Aged Care
Clients under the Support at Home Program
Adult clients accessing the NDIS (self-managed or plan-managed only) who have Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building—CB Daily) funding in their plan.
Private clients needing assessments or interventions
What areas do you service?
We service Perth Metro, Peel, and Great Regions. We also cover some regional WA areas, including Northam, Toodyay, York, and Lancelin. If you, or someone you know, lives outside these areas, contact us to see if we can cover your location.
Services & Assessments
What is included in an OT report?
A detailed summary of your current function, environment, goals, and clear recommendations for assistive tech, equipment, home modifications, or supports.
Can you help with equipment trials and quotes?
Yes, we arrange equipment trials at home, in-store, or in the community and work with suppliers to ensure the right fit. If you want assistance with obtaining quotes for recommendations of home mods, just let us know.
What equipment suppliers do you use?
We have a relationship with most equipment suppliers across the Perth metro area and do not work with one only. Our recommendation on suppliers is based on who has the most suitable and appropriate equipment or assistive technology suited to you and your needs.
Do you prescribe complex assistive technology and modifications?
Yes, including powered mobility devices, hoists, complex seating, scripted wheelchairs, and more. We prescribe both minor and major home mods for Support at Home and Home Care Package clients. We prescribe minor modifications for clients with NDIS funding.
Can you support my NDIS plan goals?
Absolutely! We work collaboratively with you and your support team to meet your NDIS goals, including increasing independence, mobility, and daily function.
Funding & Costs
Can I use my NDIS funding?
Yes—we work with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS plans.
Can I use my Home Care Package?
Yes—our services are fully compatible with Home Care Packages and the Support at Home program.
Do you offer packages for easier budgeting?
Yes—for Support at Home, we offer tailored assessment, trial, and intervention packages to help you plan services and funding more easily.
For NDIS clients, a quote of hours required will be provided following a phone consultation with the client and/or support coordinator.
Can I pay privately?
Yes—private assessments are welcome. Contact us for rates.
Do you charge for travel?
Yes, travel fees may apply depending on the location of your appointment.
We aim to keep travel charges fair and transparent. Travel is charged in accordance with relevant funding guidelines
(e.g. NDIS pricing arrangements or Support at Home program rules), and we’ll always let you know upfront if a travel fee applies.
We do our best to group appointments by area to minimise costs for our clients. If you're unsure, feel free to ask when booking or submitting a referral.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. We understand that emergencies and unexpected situations can arise. However, where possible, we kindly request 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule planned appointments to avoid charges. This allows us to offer the appointment to another client and helps us manage our schedule efficiently.
Booking & Process
How do I make a referral or booking?
You can refer via our website, email, or phone. Click here to refer.
What happens after I’m referred?
We’ll contact you to schedule an appointment, visit your home for an assessment, and provide a report with recommendations. We also follow up and assist with implementation of these recommendations, including equipment trials, joint site visits with contractors, or further education for clients/carers.
How quickly will I get my report?
We pride ourselves on fast report turnaround—typically within 7 days. Sometimes we require additional information from suppliers to add to our report, which can cause delays. We will advise if there is a delay in getting the report to you. 😊
